Defending champion PV Sindhu won her third straight women’s singles title at US$ 120,000 Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold event defeating Japan’s experienced Minatsu Mitani in the keenly contested final. It was her first title of the year 2015. Earlier she had reached the final of the Denmark Super Series where she lost to China’s Olympic champion Li Xuerui.
The Macau Open was held from November 25 to 29 at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. Currently ranked 12 in the world ranking, Sindhu produced some superb strokes and acute angled returns to depose off 6th seed Mitani 21-9, 21-23, 21-14 in the final in an hour and six minutes. She advanced to the final with grueling three-game win over another Japanese rival, second seed Akane Yamaguchi in semi final. She won 21-8, 15-21, 21-16 in a match lasted little over an hour.
Sitting out of the court for more than three months this year owing to injury, the 20-year old Hyderabadi opened her campaign in Macau Open defeating Kim Hyo Min of South Korea 21-13, 22-20. Hereunder her journey to the first title of the year –

Among other Indian participants in the Macau Open only 6th seed HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth came up with some performance deserved mentions. Both made it to the quarter finals and lost to more experienced rivals in keenly contested matches. Praneeth lost to Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia 16-21, 23-21, 13-21 while Prannoy went down to Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia 21-18, 19-21, 11-21.
