Back to back titles for Sania

Western & Southern Open, Cincinnati, Ohio

                                 Playing her first tournament after parting ways with Martina Hingis, Sania Mirza emerged winner in the first test of strength with her former Swiss partner at the Western & Southern Open, in Cincinnati, Ohio, held from August 18 to 21, 2016. She and her new partner from Czech Republic Barbora Strycova defeated Martina Hingis and CoCo Vandeweghe 7-5 , 6-4 in the final to win the title. She and Strycova were seeded 7th while Martina Hingis-Vandeweghe pair was seeded ahead of them at 4th place.

                                 First time playing together, Sania & Strycova showed maturity and perfect understanding. They notched-up an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over Darija Jurak of Croatia and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia in the opening round. Gained into confidence, they went on to knock-out 3rd seed Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in the quarter final and then 2nd seed Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan in the semi final.

                                 To their credit, Saina and Strycova didn’t loss a single game through-out the tournament. Hereunder is their march to victory –

Connecticut Open, New Haven

                                 Indian Tennis ace Sania won her second title in as many weeks when she emerged winner in the Connecticut Open at New Haven. Playing this time with a different partner, Monica Niculescu of Romania, the pair defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine and Chuang Chia-jung of Chinese Taipei 7-5, 6-4 in the final. The tournament, which carried a prize money of $695,900 was held from August 21 to 27, 2016.
