There was not much for India on day 15. Two relay teams and Aditi Ashok were seen in action on this day. It was a highly disappointing performance from men’s 4x400m relay squad, which was disqualified for wrongful change of baton during the anchor leg between Dharun and Rajiv. The quartet comprised Kunju Muhammad, Muhammad Anas, Dharun Ayyasamy and Arokia Rajiv.
Indian women team comprising Nirmala Sheoran, Tintu Luka, Poovamma Raju and Anilda Thomas ended 7th in the heat no 2, clocking 3m 29.33s in the women’s 4x400m relay event, Overall Indian squad was placed at 13th position among 16 teams in two heats.
The 4th and final round of women’s golf event was held on this day, Though Aditi Ashok was no more in the medal contention but her efforts and skill drew attention of the sports lovers. She was tied at seventh place along with Azahara Munoz (Spain), Lexi Thompson (US) and Charley Hull (GB) at the end of round one with an incredible score of three-under 68. She managed to score another three-under 68 in the second round and ended the day at tied 8th. The other golfers at this position were Chun In-gee (South Korea), Ariya Jutanugam (Thailand), Minjee Lee (Australia) and Gerina Piller (USA).
She couldn’t continue her impressive efforts in the next two rounds. Probably the lack of experience played a significant role in letting her down. She slipped to 31st at the end of 3rd round and finally ended at 41st with an overall sore of seven-over 291. She couldn’t hit any birdie on the final day. She could have finished higher had she have little more experience. At 18, she was the youngest competitor in the event. She was tuned professional only six month ago.
