Sameer, Thulasi emerge champions

                 For the first time in the National Badminton Championship’s history two brothers fought for the honour in the Men’s Singles final with younger brother Sameer Verma notching-up fantastic win over his elder brother and 2012 champion Sourabh Verma in just 25 minutes. Sameer won 21-16, 21-16. In the absence of top two women’s players – Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu, second seed PC Thulasi emerged as a new national champion defeating top seed Tanvi Lad 21-9, 21-13. 

                 Sameer and Sourabh made it to the finals with contrasting wins in the quarter and semi finals. Sameer was tested to full in both the matches by Pratul Joshi and RMV Gurusaidutt in quarter and semi finals respectively whereas Sourabh posted comparatively easy wins over Aditya Joshi and Shreyansh Jaiswal.   

            The men’s Doubles title went to favourite Pranav Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar. Their opponent – second seed Alwin Francis and K Tarun in the final left the match after the first game followin a knee-injury to Alwin.

                 Sikki Reddy and Pradanya Gadre retained the Women’s Doubles title by deating second seed Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant 22-20, 21-18 in 44 minutes.

               Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan won their fifth Mixed Doubles title in a row brushing aside Pranav Chopra and Sikki Reddy in a keen battle 22-20, 22-20. For Aparna, it was her 6th title in the event, having won it with V Diju in 2007.
