Shanghai World Cup : Women bring home first gold
       

             Just concluded Stage IV Archery World Cup at Shanghai, China, fetched India her first gold medal of the season. Indian archers who had performed satisfactorily till now, couldn't win a gold medal in the previous three World Cup events. Indian archers had bagged 6 silver and 1 bronze medal before the Shanghai World Cup.

            Women archers who clinched silver medal in Recurve Team event at Ogden World Cup, improved upon their performance and brought home golden glory. The team comprised, teenager Archery-sensation Deepika Kumari, old foe Chekrovolu Swuro and seasoned campaigner Bombayla Devi. The trio defeated Italy very convincingly in the final 215-205 and took sweet revenge of their loss in the final of the World Championship at Turin earlier this year. 

            The men's Compound Team also excelled at Shanghai and surprised many by winning a silver medal. It was India's first medal in this category in World Cup competitions. After getting better of Philippines and Australia in earlier rounds, Indian team went down to three times winner USA in the final. The team comprised Jignas Chittibomma, Chinna Raju Srither and Ratan Singh Khuraijam. 

            In individual events, Junior World Champion, Deepika Kumari was the lone Indian medal winner. She claimed a bronze medal in the Women's Recurve competition. She defeated Erwina Safitri  of Indonesia 6-4 for the bronze medal play-off. It was Deepika's 6th medal this year in World Cup competitions.
