The Indian women Recurve Archery team made country proud by finishing second in an Archery World Cup Team event when Indian trio of Dola Banerjee, L Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari went down to South Korea in the final at Stage III World Cup event at Ogden, USA. It was the first occasion when Indian women team made it to the final of any World Cup event. Earlier India had gained a bronze medal at Dover, England in 2007. This was also the only medal that Indian archers could win at Ogden.

The Indian women team put up remarkable performance in the meet. Ranked 6th in the world, India first ousted Georgia 220-210 in 1st round and then outplayed Spain 218-182 in the quarter final. In semi final India made short work of second ranked China by eliminating them 215-206. In final too, India gave away tough fight to South Korea however score-line didn't reflect the true picture. India scored equally in the first two rounds but few misses in the third, let South Korea to take 3 points lead. In the final round of six arrows, India tried hard to catch South Korea but South Koreans were more accurate in piercing the target. They finally took 5 points lead and walked away with the gold medal. India had to settle for the bronze medal.

Indian male team, which won gold medal at the Stage II Meet at Antalya in June, finished 6th. Missing one of its best archer - Rahul Banerjee, in the team, India couldn't come to terms and fell to Italy in the quarterfinals 216-219 after overcoming Colombia 215-213 in the round of 16. Indian team comprised Tarundeep Rai, Mangal Singh Champia and Kapil Singh.

In individual events, all the Indian archers made an early exit. Only two women archers - Dola Banerjee and Deepika Kumar somehow managed to reach pre-quarter final stage while the other archers fell either in first or second rounds. Hereunder is the sum-up of their performances -

  • Mangal Singh Champia: fell to Elian Cuesta (Spain) in 1st round
